A bustling crowd, the scent of hot chocolate and hot pretzels wafting through the air, and dozens of stalls selling authentic, hand-made goods: it sounds cozy, right? This kind of atmosphere is precisely what can be found at the Christkindlmarket in downtown Aurora.

The market opened on Nov. 21, and will continue to be open until Dec. 24. The market is free to enter without a ticket, and features over 60 vendors, as well as live music and other exclusive events. Vendors vary from traditional German treats like Stroopwaffles, to hand-knit scarves and hats, to intricate ornaments, like those from the famous Kaethe Wohlfahrt tent.

The Christkindlmarket is a perfect place for families to make holiday memories and do some gift shopping for their loved ones. There is something at the market that all ages can enjoy, from tasty sweets for kids, to wine tasting for adults.

A holiday tradition originating in Germany, Christkindlmarkets have spread to America, and are available all over the country. Other locations nearby include downtown Chicago and Wrigleyville.

The Aurora Christkindlmarket is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Friday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. From Dec. 22-23, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and it will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The Aurora Christkindlmarket is located at 360 N. Broadway, Aurora, IL.
