A new era is on the horizon for the Plainfield North High School (PNHS) Athletic Department this school year, as a completely new staff takes over with fresh goals and a reimagined vision for student-athletes.
PNHS welcomes George Sam as the new Athletic Director and Daniel Redmore as the new Assistant Athletic Director. Together, they plan on promoting a welcoming, family-like culture among all student athletes.
Their shared goal of building a welcoming culture starts from Sam’s “t-shirt idea.” “I’m in the process of trying to do an order where I get t-shirts for every athlete that say FAMILY on the front and something with Plainfield North and on the back [symbolizing] Pride Tradition Commitment and Respect.” All athletes will be given these shirts as a way of displaying the PNHS athletic community.
Sam shared his goal of a unified, supportive environment where athletes feel like they are a part of one big family. He highlighted that success goes beyond wins and losses; it’s about preparing students for life after high school.
Assistant Athletic Director Redmore echoed these ideas, stressing the importance of accessibility and a strong connection between staff and students. He wants every athlete to feel included, supported, and comfortable, ensuring that the department evolves alongside the student body.
Both directors appreciate the challenges of starting fresh, considering that it takes time to learn the ropes and find the right balance between maintaining old traditions and introducing new ones. “We don’t know what we don’t know,” states both Sam and Redmore. But both are committed to making the department a place where everyone feels heard as they take the time to learn as well.
As our community watches these changes unfold, one thing is certain: a stronger, more connected athletic community is on the horizon at Plainfield North.
