Beginning the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 is changing its housing borders, relocating current and new students to different schools.
After being approved by the administrative board on Dec. 17, 2025, 10 neighborhoods were chosen to be redistributed across Plainfield North High School, Plainfield East High School, and Plainfield High School-Central campus to better accommodate the increase in new housing across Plainfield.
For now, high schoolers are the only grouping to be affected by the changes, with elementary and middle school decisions pending currently. As PSD 202 attendance rises throughout the district, alternative options such as expansion have been introduced.
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 superintendent, Glenn Wood, has noted the current growth throughout Plainfield schools, intending for this new plan to allow consistency for the next few years.
“We are (at an estimated) 94 percent capacity in elementary, middle, and high schools,” Wood said, sourced from PSD202’s official website.
Affecting neighborhoods include: Arbor of Plainfield, Creekside Crossing North, Fieldstone, Indian Oaks, Leewood, Renwick Place (Stone Bluff), River Point, South Pointe, Vintage Harvest, and Wallin Woods.
Overpopulation at enrollment in Plainfield North has raised class sizes and left teachers deficient in seats, causing overload to occur more often.
Due to the number of students at North, the 3 other Plainfield High Schools are now underpopulated, leaving classrooms emptier, courses not being run, and an imbalance between the distribution of neighborhoods.
While current students (freshman-junior) can appeal to stay at their current school, many submissions have been disapproved due to inadequate reasoning, causing outrage with parents.
Future modifications to the boundaries may occur after the next few years, maybe even building another high school, Plainfield West.
