The 2026 NFL playoffs ended the way few predicted back in September, with the Seattle Seahawks standing alone.

Seattle defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, closing a postseason lead by unstoppable defense, and clutch performances by Sam Darnold at the quarterback position.

The Seahawks did not dominate statistically, but they controlled the game where it mattered most. Seattle won the turnover battle 3-0 and finished without giving the ball away. That difference greatly shakes things up in a matchup between two 14-3 teams.

Quarterback Sam Darnold delivered a steady performance, completing 19 of 38 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown. He avoided mistakes and leaned on the running game. Running back Kenneth Walker III was the engine, carrying the ball 27 times for 135 yards and repeatedly moving the chains to sustain long drives. Walker ended up winning the Super Bowl MVP for his dominant performance.

Seattle’s scoring began methodically. Kicker Jason Myers converted four field goals across the first three quarters, giving the Seahawks a 12-0 lead entering the final period. The game broke open early in the fourth quarter when Darnold connected with AJ Barner for a 16-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 19-0.

New England finally answered behind rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns. However, his two interceptions, including a critical fourth-quarter pick returned for a touchdown, halted any momentum the Patriots attempted to build.

The defining moment came midway through the fourth quarter. Maye’s pass was intercepted near midfield and returned for a defensive touchdown, pushing Seattle’s lead to 28-7 and effectively ending the contest. While the Patriots added a late score, the Seahawks’ defense closed the game with consistent pressure.

Throughout the playoffs, Seattle’s formula remained consistent: limit turnovers, establish the run and capitalize on defensive opportunities. That identity carried them through earlier postseason rounds and into the championship.

The 2026 playoffs overall were marked by clutch performances. Several games were decided by one possession, and young quarterbacks played prominent roles. Maye’s emergence in New England signaled a potential new era in the AFC, while Seattle’s roster combined veteran experience with emerging talent.

For the Seahawks, the victory represents a return to championship form and reinforces the value of how much defense matters. Seattle held New England to 18 rushing attempts and forced them into predictable passing situations, allowing the secondary to make plays.

The Patriots finished the season with momentum and promise, but Seattle finished it with a trophy.

When the final seconds expired in Santa Clara, the Seahawks had done more than win a game. They built a legendary season based on physicality, patience, and discipline under pressure, and closed the 2026 NFL playoffs on top.
