Shocking news hit the world on Aug. 27 as news of Dolly Parton’s death started to spread. Dolly Parton was a beloved country artist singing classics like “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “Here You Come Again.” With thousands of downloads on each hit they were a fan favorite of many.
Born in Tennessee, Parton sang on various television shows and local radio stations. After high school, Parton moved to Nashville and later joined The Porter Wagoner Show as a duet partner. After a successful career on the show, she launched a solo career making iconic hits, one being “I Will Always Love You.” Growing her solo career, she was awarded multiple Grammy awards, inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, built a theme park named Dollywood, and built a children’s literacy charity.
Though Parton’s passing was shocking news to all, many posted and shared how much she will be missed.
“She was a philanthropist. I think a lot of people can agree they are saddened by her passing because she used the money from her fame to fund things that mattered,” Malinda Hensley, a senior at Plainfield North High School, shared.
On the park’s official website, Dollywood president Eugene Naughton stated “A lot of people are concerned that things are going to change without Dolly being present here, and I want to assure you that it’s not.”
Naughton added, “Just know that we’re all going to keep her alive here.”
Through the heartbreak of it all, her legends will be carried on through Dollywood and the stories of her closest friends.
The passing of Parton will always be remembered in the hearts of many, her stories live on to inspire many more young artists to come.
