Plainfield North’s swim and dive team has been without a diver for 4 seasons now. With the start of the 2026 girls season, they finally have a diver to add to the team: freshman Ashlynn Carr. With this new addition, the team is looking forward to making new waves this season.

Carr said, “I’m really happy and proud that I am the first diver in 4 years because I get to represent my team by doing something I love. I also hope to inspire more people to try diving.”

The team has many fast swimmers, but without any divers it is challenging to win a meet. Assistant Coach Hardie said, “we have definitely lost meets or invites in the past due to not having divers. It causes our team to have to swim harder to make up for any points other teams gained from diving”.

Over the past weekend the girls competed at the Lockport Invitational, at which they brought home avictory. The team tied for first with Lincoln Way East, securing their first win in a couple of years.

Without any divers to help add points to the overall score at meets, the girls have to push themselves even harder to make up for lost points. Team Captain Lauren Filas said “with how hard we have been working at practice, I’m not surprised with our win at Lockport this weekend”.

Carr said she was really nervous but also excited to try out diving. Though she have never dove competitively, she has over 12 years of experience in gymnastics.

With it only being her 3rd diving competition, at the Lockport invite she had an amazing performance, placing 3rd overall. Her finish added to the teams overall score, leading to their win.

Filas as well as Abigail Taylor, Plainfield’s other Team Captain, have been working hard to guide and lead their team to perform as best as they can. Both captains agree that if the team keeps up the hard work they have been putting in, they will no doubt finish the season strong.
