Despite being in the middle of a five-year contract with The Matrix, now in what would have been its third year, Plainfield North High School (PNHS)  has been forced to make a sudden shift; The Matrix is closing.

For the past two years, prom at The Matrix has been a high-energy, staple experience for students at PNHS. But this year, those expectations are changing.

According to venue announcements, The Matrix is closing due to a combination of financial challenges and lack of bookings. The venue will no longer be available for future events, forcing schools like PNHS to adjust their plans.

Because the closure voided the existing contract, teacher Callie Kniep had to secure a new location that was perfect for PNHS; she settled on DiNolfo’s Banquets.

She explained, “There was a lot of research done, mostly through wedding vendor websites, to help find DiNolfo’s. For Plainfield North, the amount of students that attend prom is more than some schools around us and DiNolfo’s was able to comfortably seat our guest count.”

Located in Homer Glen, IL, DiNolfo’s provides a different, but equally exciting experience. Kniep expressed that, “DiNolfo’s offers a very elegant, grand space for us to use for a prom venue.”

Known for its elegant decor and classic ballroom atmosphere, the venue brings a more traditional feel to prom. Students can expect a more formal atmosphere compared to the modern club-style of The Matrix.

While the change was unexpected, it also brings a sense of anticipation. For many students, this will be their first time attending a prom at DiNolfo’s, creating a fresh experience and new memories for all.

PNHS senior Izzy Davis expresses that, “I don’t like how far the new location is, but I am excited to try a new place. I think DiNolfo’s will be better than The Matrix.”

Even with a change in venue, one thing remains the same: prom is still one of the most anticipated nights of the year.
