Plainfield North senior Brooklyn Griffith has taken a rare path, committing to play both softball and golf at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, a decision built on years of growth, discipline and trust in her process. Griffith’s journey across both sports did not start the same. While softball had long been part of her routine, golf was something she picked up later, making her development even more notable.
“My journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I’ve grown a lot in both sports over the past four years,” Griffith said. “Especially with golf, I came in freshman year having little to no experience and ended a two-time state qualifier.”
Her ability to improve quickly in golf while maintaining a high level in softball reflects the work she has put in behind the scenes. Balancing two varieties of sports is not simple, but Griffith said it became manageable through consistency and mindset.
“Balancing two varsity sports definitely required discipline and time management, but honestly finding a joy in practicing and playing has made everything easier,” she said. “It has taught me I am capable of more than I thought.”
That mindset carried into her college decision. Griffith said MSOE stood out early because it offered stability both academically and athletically, something she prioritized while continuing both sports.
“I knew quickly that MSOE was the right place for me as it offered the perfect balance of academics and athletics,” she said.
“What stood out most was the fact that all of my teammates are also working at a degree in engineering and nursing.”
The opportunity to compete in two sports at the next level is something Griffith does not take lightly. She views it as both a challenge and a chance to keep developing.
“I am so excited to have the opportunity to play two sports at the college level and challenge myself to improve as an athlete in both sports,” she said. “I’m also excited to build relationships with my teammates across both programs.”
Throughout her career, Griffith credits much of her success to the people around her, especially her coaches in both programs.
“My coaches have played a huge impact on my development as both an athlete and a person,” she said. “My golf coaches are one of the main reasons I developed so quickly, and my softball coaches have always pushed me to be the best version of myself and given me extra reps.” As Griffith prepares for the next level, her path stands out because of how she built it. From a beginner in golf to a state qualifier, while maintaining a softball career, her trajectory reflects growth and a willingness to take on more.
Now, she carries that same approach to college, where the challenge only increases.
